Superkids: What is storytelling and what does it do for you?
Kak Aryo: Storytelling is more than just telling a story. It’s communicating and interacting. It’s very helpful in establishing sharing experience between parents and kids, to teach without lecturing and to say something without saying.
What way is the most convenience for you?
Kak Aryo: I prefer without books, in theatrical and puppetry style, its employing puppets. In a family, usually mothers prefer storytelling with books and fathers without books.
According to you, what is the benefit of storytelling without books?
Kak Aryo: I have more room to explore lol…. We can have a story from just about anything around. Also it gives more satisfaction to make our own story. For kids, the technique can help stimulating their attention which are hearing, listening, sharpening perception and to recognize the sequences of story.
When you are doing the storytelling, kids are like stunned. Is there any secret way of storytelling?
Kak Aryo: Storytelling is more like sharing with best friends, you can go “overdo”, if necessary. Kids really love it, you know.
Where did you learn to be that expressive?
Kak Aryo: My family likes to tell stories. Mom, Dad, Granny, Uncle, Aunty, and with self learning, because it’s my every day thing now.
Any unique or memorable experience of doing storytelling?
Kak Aryo: Becoming volounteer with only fairy tales for post disaster area such as Tsunami of Aceh, Earthquake in Bengkulu, Tasikmalaya, Bantul, Jogja and others.
What is the best tale, according to you?
Kak Aryo: Eclipse by Pak Raden
What is education for you?
Kak Aryo: Education should be liberating, less burden, free and not scary for kids. Kids should love and enjoy it….
And how is educational condition in Indonesia to you?
Kak Aryo: Today’s education even with all its downside should have been better, judging from how it is in remote areas. Just like these days, I am currently working in some remote areas in Nusa Tenggara (NTT), I meet a lot of teachers. They are so eager to educate. So, whatever the form and value that comes along, education is wandering around in dreams, high spirit with own strength.
