Ever seen flames color of birthday candle that matches the candle? Yes, flame does not always have to be bright yellow. With Mom’s help, we can make rainbow candle. Just be careful because it’s hot, ok?

Materials

Paraffin wax

Color chemicals

Candle wicks

Candle mold

Double boiler

Candy thermometer

Small bowl

Step #1

Choose the color of flame we want to make. Strontium chloride for red, calcium carbonate  for orange, sodium chloride or table salt for yellow, boric acid for green, copper chloride for blue, potassium chloride for purple and magnesium sulfate for white. We can purchase them all at chemistry store.

Step #2

Put the coloring materials into the bowl with candle wicks. The wicks should be fully sunk. Leave for an hour.

Step #3

Take the wicks, put them into candle mold. Seal the hole at the bottom with clay to prevent the candle seeps out.

Step #4

Prepare the double boiler and candy thermometer. Put in the paraffin wax in the top pan. Heat up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step #5

Pour the melted wax into the mold with wicks, leave for cool. This may take quite some time; leave in normal temperature for 12 hours, and another 12 hours in the fridge.
