Gadget to School? Yes or No?

Okay, we have a state-of-art cell phone or computer. We want to bring it to school, but our teacher forbids it. Why our school forbids gadget but other schools allow it? Well, it mostly depends on the advantage or disadvantage of gadget at school.

The advantages of modern gadgets to students includes; gives a faster way to search for information via the Internet, gives a more effective way of learning via educational computer programs, prepares students for the globalized world with computer-literacy, gives easier way of communication, or helps students if they have difficulties in homework.

The disadvantages includes; makes us tend to be lazy, divert our attention from teacher due to online games, can be used for procrastination, distracts us from schoolwork, makes us to lose interest in schoolwork, or risk to be stolen.

Gadgets also give more interaction through Facebook and less interaction in reality. Imagine, kids doing text while eating at the canteen. They would talk less about stuff happening in school and write more about stuff happening on facebook. The joy of gossiping about discipline teacher privately with our best friend would be replaced by gossiping about someone out there through our status update/tweets.

So, technology can enhance traditional methods of learning but cannot replace the human touch. Ultimately, the quality of the class will depend solely on the quality of the teacher and not the presence of technology.
