Indonesian Little Photographer with Worldwide Achievement

Teresa Patria Prasasya is a worth notice name at photography. It’s been since the name is on the list of Young Travel Photographer – 14 Years Old & Under winners, the official site of Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY). She outmatches thousands of competitors from 90 countries. Five other young photographers on the final are Michael Theodric (Indonesia), Miriam Deckmyn (Belgium), Zac Gray (England), Sayeed Mahbuba (Bangladesh), and Jonathan Rystrom (Denmark). But still, Teresa owns them.

“At just 10 years old, Patria has cleverly captured the busy world on an ant colony whilst showing good technique and an eye for design. It is not easy to put together a set of four images like these which show different elements of colony life whilst maintaining good use of depth of field, and she should be proud of these images,” the jury team commented on her photo with title “The Ant Colony” as quoted from TPOTY site. For your information, Superkids, the jury consists of big names of photography world such as Steve Bloom and Chris Coe.

Superkids Indonesia has a schedule to meet Teresa in person, during the Surabaya Photo Feast (FFS) event in Grand City Surabaya, May 2014.

Congratulation, Teresa. Wow, sure there are those who envy you now.

Hahaha…thank you. We had a healthy competition though. The other finalist Young Travel Photographer from Banten, Michael Theodric congratulated me on Facebook, before I realized it.

How did you find out about the TPOTY competition?

Well, the internet..hehe… Last year, 2012, Michael Theodric won. He is well known and won many trophies before. I’d say his pictures are awesome, it inspires me. The race starts mid 2013. First, just sendthrough e-mail. But When we were in the final, the original must be sent via post.

What’s the prize?

A 16 megapixel underwater camera.

What’s the story of “The Ant Colony” picture?

I was in mood of macro technique back then. It turns out taking pictures of ants are very tricky because they just don’t stay still, always moving around. I tried to lure them with chocolate bread, it worked. The ants came swarming it, they got frenzy. An ant became a target of the others. Well, all I did just aim with DSLR Canon 1100 D, focused on the targeted ant and hit the shutter repeatedly.

Where’s the location?

At home terrace …hahaha!

How is the picture now?

I put it in the living room.

Since when did you like photography?

Second grade. But never got serious until the fourth grade. It started because I always helped dad editing the pre wedding pictures, he’s a wedding photographer. Then I got a camera, a pocket one. I was more convenient with big lens so dad bought me DLSR camera and enrolled me to Matanesia photographer community. We often tag team in hunting pictures.

What’s your favorite object?

Animal and the landscape. I’d say they are the most interesting ones.

And they say you are also an athlete?

That’s right. I was member of PERCASI (Indonesian Chess Unison), Surabaya. Grade 2, won Surabaya KONI trophy for 8-9 female category. On grade 3, number one Surabaya KONI trophy for 8-9 female category. Grade 4, I made it into top 10 Surabaya Mayor Trophy Tournament for Elementary School level. I stopped there because i started to focus on photography. The schedules often overlapping each other, so i must choose one, and i go with the second.

Wow, you aim to be a professional photographer too?

Not really. Photography is just a hobby. I still want to be a teacher.
