9 Flavors of Mooncake in Sheraton Hotel

This year, Zhongqiu or Mid-Autumn Festival fell on September 8th (the 15th days of the 8th month in Chinese calendar). Centuries ago, Superkids, it’s when Chinese people celebrate the abundant of harvest. In Indonesia, it’s known as Mooncake Festival.

What does it have to do with the moon? In ancient Chinese culture, it’s believed that the rotation of the moon did contribute in the success or failure of harvest. Therefore, as a sign of gratitude to the moon, families gathered to enjoy the typical mooncake.

This cake program was also based on the belief that it’s on this night that the moon was in full round. The bright moon light was a symbol of prosperity and perfection. So, eating moon cake was also a wish for family integrity.

Sheraton Surabaya Hotel & Towers provided nine optional flavors of mooncake to enjoy. “White lotus, white lotus with yolk filling, coffee, red bean, red bean with yolk filling, honey dew melon, durian and black sesame,”  Renaud Mahe, Director of Food & Beverage, explained.

The round full moon cake is available in Lung Yuan Chinesse Resto and La Patisserie. It’s made of egg yolk, flour, red bean, essence of green tea and other ingredients. The making process is quite long and through baking to make it last longer.
