The Thai Look Choop

 

Thai food, without doubt, is one of the world most favorite culinary. One that can easily attractive to both out eyes and belly is Luk Chup, aka Look Choop. Sometimes it is also called Khanom Luk Chup. It’s a dessert made by mug bean and coconut milk that looks like miniature of vegetables and fruit. In Thai, Luk means ‘small stuff’ and chup means ‘coating’.

 

Look Choop is one of the famous menus from the kitchen’ royal palaces of ancient Siam. It’s said that member of royal family loved these cute snacks. Each Look Choop will be made in incredibly detailed shape of the original fruit or vegetables, and then beautified with food coloring materials. Today, Look Choop can be found in any culinary food along Thai roads.

Ingredients:

• 1 Cup Mung Bean (500g)

• 2½ Cup Sugar

• 1½ Cup Thick Coconut Milk

 

For the Gelatine:

• 2 Tablespoon Gelatine Powder

• 2 Cups Water

• ¼ Cup Sugar

• Food Colouring

 

Method:

• Leave the mung bean in water for three hours and then steam.

• Grind the mung bean well and mix it with the sugar and coconut milk.

• Heat it on a medium heat until it dries out.

• Leave it to cool.

• Once it has cooled, mould into fruit shapes.

• Use the food colouring to colour the fruit shapes.

• Dissolve the gelatine in boiling water and add all the sugar.

• Dip the fruit shapes in the gelatine a few times.

• Leave them to dry and decorate with leaves if required.
