Healthy Green Spinach Noodles
Not a big fan of spinach but want to be muscular like Popeye? Try this green Mie Popey.
Mie Popey (Popey Noodles) started to go on sale in December 2011. But not until after mid-2014 people started to the unfamiliar name and taste were sought by. Easy to understand, these noodles once only sold in the cafeteria at Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya, where the founder go to study. Moreover, Mie Popey had stopped selling in 2013 because everyone involved was busy looking for office jobs.
Mie Popey reappear a year later, in April 2014 in Rungkut Asri Surabaya region. “Among friends, i was the only one who serious want to carry on selling Mie Popey. So once my thesis completed, i reopened the outlet Mie Popey but outside the campus,” said Fauzi Ahmadillah Rendy the owner.
Just like before, Mie Popey still used spinach as ingredients for the noodles. Spinach was blended, then it was used as mixture of noodle dough to substitute plain water. No need to add food coloring again, the noodles were already green. “Try it if you will. Be it boiled or just add hot sauce, the green is not going to fade because it is used original spinach,” Rendy challenged.
In Rungkut Asri, Mie Popey started to make a comeback. Especially after Rendy move the outlet to Jl Soekarno in MERR area, Surabaya. The place is in one location with Strike Coffee, right across from Bebek Harissa, a place that also quite famous.
Although they use the same name, many changes were made by Rendy to improve the quality of Mie Popey. If once buyer was limited to only ITS campus mates, now the target segment expand to women and families. Mie Popey were originally sold for only Rp 7 thousand per serving now has three choices of servings.
Children like we usually quite full with small size Olive Portion for Rp 12,000. For mom Popey Portion sizes at Rp 15,000 fits better. While Dad can go with big Brutus Portion size for Rp 17,000. The contents are the same: healthy green spinach noodles topped with chunks of chicken, meatballs, fried dumplings, lettuce, pickles and green chili.
