Playing Kite in Museum

Do you like kite? It’s maybe a less popular toy compared to gadget these days.

Especially in Jakarta that already crowded by tall buildings. No doubt kites are rather difficult to play here. What if we take the play to Museum  Layang-Layang (Kite Museum) instead? Here we get to know more about art and paper, kite resembles. There was a time when kite becomes primadona among Indonesian children. But, in time less kids familiar with kite.

In kite museum we get to know kites, its history and learn how to make our own kite. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? The museum is located in Pondok Labu region, South Jakarta. We need some patient to find it because it’s quite hidden. However there’s a road sign in red fonts saying: “Museum Layang-Layang Indonesia, 350 m” if we get pass Jalan RS Fatmawati.

Don’t be surprised to find a small museum building. This Kite Museum is not as big as regular museums, since this place is private management, not government funding. This Kite Museum belongs to Ibu Endang Ernawati. Yet, Superkids and Superfamily can enjoy great times here.

It is not expensive to get into the museum. And that includes audiovisual shows, tours, and also kite making. There is several other tour packages are offered, such as pottery making, batik to paint umbrella. Prices for each package is varied, and we can we take home everything we make. You should be very proud of this work, Superkids.

In the museum there are various kinds and forms of kites. Many kites are from different regions in Indonesia. There are puppet kites, three-dimensional form of Pegasus, dragonflies, grasshoppers, Komodo, carts, boats, cars, Dewi Sri, dragons, and even buildings. There is also typical kite from certain region or province in Indonesia such as Aceh, Bengkulu, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, and others. In fact there are kites from abroad, such as Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Cambodia and even from Europe.

In the audiovisual session, we will be taken to enjoy the history and making of the kite. There are pictures of a dragon-shaped kite in act. We will be amazed to see the image.
