5 Inventors Who Make Cozy Home (1)

John W. Chamberlain, the inventor of Washing Machine

Washing machine with basic function like that of these days’ ones was not been invented before 1930 by John W. Chamberlain. The guy managed to construct a machine that can do the washing, rinsing and squeezing in one process. It was not until 1950s that the washing machine equipped with drying mechanism so users didn’t have to squeeze the clothes in the machine.

The more effective and modern washing machine was introduced by General Electric in 1957. This washing machine came up with button to regulate the water temperature when washing and rinsing, the speed of the movement and machine rotation. They also added squeezing tool and dryer. That’s when washing machine started to take place in regular houses.

John Gorrie, the inventor of Air Conditioner (AC)

John Gorrie, an American who was born in Charleston, South California. Graduated from medical school and surgical in New York, 1833. Upon graduation, he opened a doctor practice in Aphalachicola Florida, where he was also become the head of local post office, city treasurer, member of city council and also became the mayor in 1837-1839. The heat in the hospital cost his patient to get malaria or any other disease with high fever symptoms.

Gorrie gave a hard thought and came up with an idea to install some kind of fan with ice cubes in front of it. The idea was to make the body temperature of his patient to come down quickly. In 1844 he began developing an experimental ice making machine based on science, where hot is always flow from the hot gas or liquid into the cooler elements. The device worked by compressing the gas, thus increasing the temperature.

The gas was then directed to coils to lower the pressure, resulting in cold temperature. The machine was constantly developed, aiming for more gas and lower temperature. The gas inside the coil caused the air around machine became cooler. This process is still applied on air temperature regulator up to these days.

Gorrie was so driven that he left medical world in 1845 to focus in developing this cooling machine. He introduced the ice making machine in 1848 and two years later receive a patent. Unfortunately he was not that success in raising money to establish a commercial ice making company.

Carl von Linde, the inventor of Kulkas

Can you imagine a world without refrigerator? Drink don’t get cold, food gets old soon, and fruits don’t stay long. The fridge helps every house to store food, making it last longer. An engineer named bernama Carl von Linde invented a technology to separate gas, so he could apply it to bring down the temperature the way fridge works. He was born in Bendorf, German on June 11, 1842 and invented the first working refrigerator in 1876. (To be continued)
