Fairy Tales at National Museum

Last week (2/11), National Museum was having the Indonesia Fairy Tale Festival (FDI) all day from morning to afternoon. The festival performed series of book reading activities and group storytelling, workshop, yoga teller, bazaar and story donation collection for kids of Eastern Indonesia.

Reading book and telling story are two important and interconnected things in developing superkids’ intelligence since early. If we can make Superkids accustomed to love book since early and are familiar with stories of the world around them, which in turn broaden their horizon, increase their confidence and positive creativities. Unfortunately, up to this day reading and storytelling are still secluded for most Superkids in Indonesia.

For that reasons, Ayo Dongeng Indonesia!, Taman Baca Anak Lebah (TBAL), Interface Brand Communication, Idee Design and Digital Mommie went together with FDI in the pursue of bringing the reading as hobby to life and to give sound of the importance of storytelling as part of Indonesian children development.

Also at the same scene, TBAL also launched the “Semangati Guru (encourage the teachers)” program, that is a crowdfunding (community funding) based campaign. The objective was to encourage teachers in classrooms so that the teaching learning activities can be more effective and creative. The national scale program invited every part of the community to take part.

FDI was first announced last year in University of Indonesia, Depok with over 1500 Indonesian family visitors. Last week, the number of Superkids who came to the storytelling program was also considered a success.

Among the storytellers of the program were: Cassandra Wye (United Kingdom), Pak Raden, Kak Aio (Ariyo Zidni), Alya Rohali, Paman Gery, Rona Mentari, Kak Resha, Kak Arnel, Kak Dwi Kanfas and Nusantara Bertutur. They also had Puppetaria show with Winnie & Winna, music from the next door by Pak Gesang and Aman Perkusi and talkshow of “The wonder of Storytelling and Books”. The program deserved much appreciation and was very positive for Superkids.
