Masterclass Trophy for Piano Competition

 

Vatche Jambazian specially visited Indonesia on invitation by The Piano Institute (TPI). This English pianist from London, who has performed in many countries, became a jury for Indonesia Open Piano Competition. The event was attended by 110 participants on Saturday, December 7th, 2013 in Amandeus Hall, TPI in Dharmahusada Indah Timur area, Surabaya. Vatche was judging the performance of the little pianist alongside a domestic pianist from Jakarta, Henoch Kristianto.

 

The race was divided into 19 categories for trophies and 10 masterclass scholarships with Vatche. “We didn’t limit the participant for Surabaya but also from outside areas like Medan, Jakarta, Jember, Malang and Pasuruan. We always try to present a world class pianist to support the creation of musical culture in society. In my experience, being aware of music increases ethic and intelligence. Culture that comes with music has no downside,“ the Director of TPI Catherine Tanujaya BMus explained.

 

Matthew Abraham Trenvincent was awarded the first place for category Intermediate A (under 9). This fourth grader of Montessori School Surabaya has been practicing piano since he was four years old. He regularly takes a weekly class at TPI, but practice at home every day. Earlier he was acknowledged to gain the second place in piano competition held by London College of Music, 2012. “It’s just for my experience, because i like music,” said the student who admires of Ludwig van Beethoven.

 

To broaden the horizon was also what Marcia Humato aimed. This student of Singapore National Academy, Waru, Sidoarjo didn’t want to miss a chance to join the masterclass with Vatche. The class was open for free for the top 10 of the competition, but is also open for every students with the charge of IDR 600.000 (30 minutes), IDR 750.000 (45 minutes) and IDR 900.000 (one hour). “Being a parent, i support the talent to the fullest,” Mrs David Humato, Marcia’s mom, explained.

 

On Monday, December 09, 2013, Vatche is scheduled to perform a solo in the same place started at 07.00 PM. For a full 90 minutes, he will amaze the audience with masterpieces from Haydn, Brahms, Schubert, Chopin, and Prokovief. The concert is also the closure of the entire 2013 TPI chain of events.
