“Melody with Love” Charity Piano Concert
Hundreds of audiences were stunned by the performance of five pianist in Amadeus Hall, The Piano Institute (TPI), Surabaya. Director of TPI, Catherine Tanujaya along with her best students Marcia Humato, Christiana Clara, Yosephine Wahyudi and Steffi Purnomo had practiced for three months preparing for Friday afternoon, February 8th 2013, show. “You could say it was pretty intense practice. We had three sessions a week in the class, and extra session at home,” Catherine said when interviewed during the preparation break.
The concert with theme of ‘Melody with Love’ opened by the duet Catherine and a cellist Jessica Suhud. The two presented Camille Sait-Saens’s ‘Allegro Op 43’. After that the student took turn showing their skills. Marcia stunned the audience with ‘Sonatina Op 36 No 3’ from Muzio Clementi, Christiana with ‘Sonatina in E Flat Op 19 No 6’ from JL Dussek, Steffi with ‘Sonata in D Major K 311’ from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Yosephine performed ‘Waltz in E Minor Op Posthomous’ from Frederic Chopin. Catherine, who opened the show also performed in solo, amazed the crowd with Franz Schubert‘s ‘Sonata in a Major Op 120 D66’.
This was the second time TPI held a concert since the founding in Juli 2012. Unlike the first one, this concert was dedicated to raise fund for Maria Ines Orphanage building in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan. The orphanage will host dozens of children, taking shelter in the monastery. Among the audience of ‘Melody with Love’ concert, were some representatives from Claris Missionaries Sisters, who are currently taking care of the children in monastery. They accepted the fund raised from the ticket selling. “I am so proud to be a part of this charity show,” said Clara, a four grader student of Singapore National Academy, Surabaya.
For TPI, ‘Melody With Love’ was more than a creativity event but also to share. “We hope that this concert can inspire people to not only appreciate music in competition, but also in passion and caring to each other,” Catherine made a wish.
