Holiday with Shaun the Sheep

The soundtrack of “Shaun the Sheep” series was humming lively from the big stage in main atrium Grand City Mall, Surabaya in Wednesday afternoon, June 25 2014. Dozens of Superkids who had been waiting came closer. They screamed and jumped as Shaun, the cousin Timmy and the best friend dog of the sheep, Bitzer, appeared. Going on for 30 minutes from 04.30 PM, it’s the premiere show of “Shaun The Sheep Championsheep” in Surabaya.

The story goes as Shaun, Timmy and Bitzer were having a series of shot-put, gunny race and run with marbles on the spoon match. Bitzer came up first and immediately invited young audiences to have a warming up with light exercises like skipping and hopping. Shaun came up next with a book of how to win the competition. And what about Timmy? Oh, this cute chubby baby sheep showed up with a marble on a spoon in hand. He needed to practice a lot to beat up the big Bitzer and the strong Shaun. This show is in bahasa and is there every day until July 6th.

More than the show, “Shaun the Sheep Championsheep” also served as playground arena with prizes. It had Shaun Bottle Trouble, Timmy’s Tic Tac Throw, Dart Challenge and Basketball Shots. Still want more? Check this out, Superkids. “We are also having the Olympikidz, a competition specific for kids. It has coloring, puzzle, fashion show, piano, sausages eat up, ice cream stick creation and singing,” Amerylia Febriani from InnoKids, the event organizer explained. Amel – her nick name – also said “Shaun the Sheep Championsheep” is only for Surabaya. Last year, a similar event successfully entertained Superkids in Jakarta and Bandung. “We get all costume and equipment straight from UK, where the Shaun the Sheep series are from,” said Amel.

Equally cheered with Shaun’s fans, the Senior Marketing Manager of Grand City Mall, Jesica Juwono, also proud to see the lively atmosphere of the kids the other day. She claimed to be excited with Shaun, Timmy and Bitzer’s presence to add more color during the holiday for Superkids in Surabaya. “It’s a free live show. For the competition, there’s no charge. No equipment to prepare? We provide everything. The point is, kids are happy even when they just spend the holiday in town,” Jessica laid out.

After the live show, Shaun and friends had open meet and greet, giving opportunity for everyone to have a photograph with them. However, Angelina Wijaya, a student of Cita Hati Christian School seemed to hesitate with the chance, “Yes the show is cool. But Timmy isn’t supposed to be that big? He’s just a baby, how come he is as tall as Shaun? Also, Timmy never put off his pacifier. This way, he become more like Shirley the fatty,” Angeline reasoned.
