Smart & Happy Kids Robotic Championship 2013

Speed, accuracy, and teamwork were the deciding factors in selecting the champions for the “Smart & Happy Kids Robotic Championship 2013” event. As an example, participants Steve and Kelvin finished their designated robot in just a few minutes time. “It’s actually very easy to create this robot we call The Driving Base. This event is also really exciting since there are a lot of participants and we have a serious competition going on here,” they commented as they were creating their robot.

“Smart & Happy Kids Robotic Championship 2013” was the first event created by the Smart & Happy Kids team. The event was open for public and was divided into three categories: Little Engineering 1(Duplo) for kids aged 5-6 years, Wedo Basic 1 for the 7-8 years group, and NXT Intermediate (Assembling Robots) for kids aged 9 and above. Started from 09.00 WIB on Sunday, 28th of April, it took place in Toys Kingdom, Gandaria City Mall. The winners won a range of prizes such as trophies, Lego toys and certificates.

Since the competition was open for public, a lot of Superkids were interested to join. From talented Superkids with a love in robotic designs to novice and beginners, many participated. In total there were 92 participants; 23 kids in the Duplo category, 25 kids in the Wedo category, and 44 kids in the NXT Intermediate category. What do you know; our country actually has a lot of talented robot designers!

“The event is a way to introduce ourselves and robots to kids. Of course, this Robotic Championship has encouraged children to become more creative and daring in experimenting with new stuff they aren’t familiar with,” explained Satriani Anggari P. one of the show committees.
