Smart Kids, Let’s Them Try

Smartness doesn’t grow in a tree. It does not depend on school education either. Neither does additional counting and foreign language courses. Those methods will not give any guaranty to your child an A+. In the seminar and workshop from Morinaga Platinum in Gramedia Expo, Surabaya, Saturday Mei 25, 2013, around 700 Supermoms had important information on how to make your “having smart children” dream come true.

The chairman of Child & Teenager Growth Division of Pediatrics Departement Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya, Dr. Ahmad Suryawan, SpA(K) guaranteed that having a smart child is not a mission impossible. Unless, the stimulation is given early, even earlier as the baby is still in the womb. “Not only smart behaving, the child also behaves smartly,” said the doctor better known as Wawan later.

Then what is the difference between Smart Behaving and Behave Smartly? Smart behaving is when a child is able to solve its problem fast, right, and complete. It has many ideas and alternative ways to sort things out. Meanwhile, the behave smartly concept talks about when a child is able to adapt itself with the environment. “For example, it understands that when in its own house, it can run around freely, but in someone else’s it has to sit nicely,” described Wawan.

In the next session, Dr. Rose Mini A. Prianto MPsi, a psychologist from Faculty of Psychology University of Indonesia, shared tips on how to create smart child’s character. According to Romi, she prefers called, there are factors that affects the smart behavior, among them are genetic and environmental stimulation. “If they have habit to scream out loud, probably because they use to see their mother do the same when angry,” she said.

Herlina Zulkarnain, who came with her husband, admitted she absorbed many good things from the seminar. She diligently wrote down important points Wawan and Romi shared. “No wonder my child is not independent until now. I did not give it a chance to try. Even for bathing. Rather doing it by itself and unclean, I took the liberty to bathe it myself. It turned out not a nurturing pattern to create a smart behavior children,” she said.
