Here is the Winner of IWEC Fiction Writing Competition

Azkal Azkiya Nurluthfi Azzahra squeaked in joy. Her name was up as the winner of fiction writing competition with theme “My Writing Changes the Future of Environment”, Sunday afternoon, August 10th 2014. In the event thrown by Indonesia Writing Edu Center (IWEC), the girl sat on the first place for A category (7-9 years old). Azkal rushed to the podium of main atrium Grand City Mall Surabaya to claim her prize.

“I wrote a story about a polluted river. There was a story about a kid who wanted to save a fish. So he took the fish home and put it into a glass jar, he used as an emergency fish tank. It was quite a surprised to be number one,” Azkal shared.

This was actually not her first trophy. The daughter of Rofiq Santoso and Dini Triyani Suardi won a school writing competition. To sharped her writing skills, Azkal enrolled in IWEC training, VIII/6 Jemursari Selatan Street Surabaya. Been only three meeting, she already managed to bring another trophy home. “We get more focused at writing in IWEC,” the five grade student of SDI Raudlatul Jannah Surabaya, revealed.

Quite different with Kamila Wahyulita Hardina. Despite her writing was announced as the first runner up B category (10-12 years old), Kamila claimed to be rather disappointed. She was quite positive about her work “Pohon Imajinasi Ninazyun” could win. The fiction told about a tree that could clean up the environment. It produced fruits that people wanted to keep things clean. “But only those with pure intention could get one. A tiny bad intention would prevent the fruit from getting off,” the sixth grade student of 6 SD Muhammadiyah 4 Pucang Surabaya, described her writing.

Kamila’s younger sister, Nasywaa Irma Hardianti also some writing in her. The third grade girl who went to the same school her sister did was announced the third place for A category. her fiction was about a magical cleaning shoes that make house shining neatly in a flash.

The fiction writing competition took place on Saturday afternoon, August 9th 2014 on “Through The World With Writing“ arena, held by IWEC. The jury received 30 hand writings, written on site. The founder of IWEC Maylia Erna Sutarto said that she did forbid the use of electronic device such as laptop and smartphone. “It was to get them used to hand writing again. So never say you can’t write without laptop. You can! All you need is paper and a pen, and you can write,” the mother of three convinced.

So, it’s only normal that neat becomes one the categories. Other than that are originality, the matching among content-theme-creativity, imagination, innovation, style and EYD (perfection spelling) also put into consideration. “We hope that this race increases the sensitivity of the kids toward the importance of keeping environment clean,“ Maylia, who was on jury board with Vika Wisnu and Didi Cahya, wished.
