Jakarta Elects Her Governor

 

Jakarta citizen, who have right to vote, come to ballot booth on Wednesday to directly elect governor and vice-governor. There are about 6.96 million voter. They are citizens aged 17 years or older or who are married. These voters have a letter of invitation. If not, they may use ID card or family card.

Voters are given ballot papers. This ballot contain picture and name of the candidates. Ballot should not be torn. “I got a torn ballot, and the election committee changed it,” said Ernawati Kasim who votes at 03 polling stations, Sukabumi Utara, Kebun Jeruk Distric, West
Jakarta.

Every voter is only eligible to vote once.They lined up since 07.00. When get a turn, the voter goes to the ballot booth. Inside, they use nail to cast ballots then folded it and put into a box. After voting, one of their finger is dipped in ink.

“Sick voters should be helped by relatives or officials,” said Nasir Djamal, polling committee 03. There are 15.111 polling stations spread across Jakarta and Seribu Islands.

 

There are six candidates governor and vice governor. They are repectively; Fauzi Bowo-Nacrowi Ramli, Hendardji Soepanji-Ahmad Riza Patria, Joko Widodo-Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, Hidayat Nur Wahid-Didik Rachbini, Faisal Basri-Biem Benjamin, Alex Noerdin-Nono Sampono. The elected candidate will govern Jakarta for next five years.
