Don’t Forget, SejutaPensilWarna in 13 Cities!

Two weeks before the D day, AkuBerdonasi threw the Festival Komunitas Peduli (Concern Community Festival) #SejutaPensilWarna in Grand City Mall Surabaya.

The kids fostered by Save Steer Child Surabaya (SSCS) performance enlivened the last day of the event on Saturday, February 21st 2015. Their action started by poem reciting “Mencicil Senyum” by Layla, with guitar on the background by Ujang. The poem was written by Anis Hidayati, a teacher of SSCS who was also at presence.

Next up, Fariz (pianica), Fikri (jimbe), Dion (vocal) and Ujang performed several song in medley style. The songs included “Negri Ngeri” and “Hukum Rimba”, two songs from Marjinal, a street kid band that is rather famous in Jakarta. SSCS band didn’t have name by its own yet, literally. “Kids often make jokes calling themselves Makmur Jaya Sentosa Perjuangan,” Public Relations of SSCS Johanes De Fretes leaked out.

SSCS is a community of care for street kids and marginalized in Surabaya. There were no less than 15 other communities support  the movement initiated  by AkuBerdonasi. Take for example MatematikaFun, Origami Indonesia, Earth Hour Surabaya, Surabaya Astronomy Club, Blood for Life Indonesia, Indorunners Surabaya, and Melukis Harapan. For three days, they set up booths in the East Rotunda area to promote their existence within the society.

For the Chairman of AkuBerdonasi, Fahad Assegaf, the activity which was supported by Superkids Indonesia, also served as a reminder to the public not to miss the main event #SejutaPensilWarna on March 8th 2015. Thus, they also set up a large box in East Rotunda where visitors can handed over colored pencils. “Although we would take even one worthy used color pencils, people turned out to be more motivated to donate a full box of new colored pencils,” the Surabaya Bangkok Bank’s employee was amazed.

On March 8th, the event was packed attractively for children and parents alike. There will be important information about eight kids’ intelligences parents need to recognize. Some games that were designed to stimulate their intelligence are here too. All these can be taken without any fee. “We can find out what are the kids original interest and talents. Being smart is not merely good at numbers, right?” Fahad explained. “Many people are trapped in the job they that is not their field. That’s why it’s crucial to recognize children’s talent since early,” Fahad went on.

#SejutaPensilWarna will be launched simultaneously in 13 cities including Surabaya, Jakarta, Bandung, Medan, Denpasar, Samarinda, Balikpapan, Majene, Palu, Magetan, Malang, and Solo. The collected color pencil will be distributed to the marginalized children in many cities.

But why color pencils? According to Public Relations Assignment Ficky A Hidajat, color pencils are closer to children’s world. All children sure know and can use colored pencils to draw with a boundless imagination. “The message we would like to convey is that parents should treat children like children. Do not pull them out of the world of children by force, as we see in urban areas,” said Ficky confirming.
