Fairy Tale Competition to Commemorate Heroes Day

Dozens of students from Ngagel Elementary School and Arek Lintang Foundation (Alit) Surabaya, were offered a free entertainment on Tuesday (Nov 6th) morning. The students swarmed the Surabaya Plaza Hotel (SPH) to watch the story tale competition. This event was held by SPH and  sponsored by Superkids Indonesia. It enlivened by dozens of participants in Kafe Taman.

Despite the original background as to commemorate the Heroes Day, stories of heroes failed to dominate the race. Only a few performers came up with stories about Bung Tomo and the origin of Surabaya. The rest presented stories about friendships, folktales, even the very famous legend in Surabaya, Sarip ‘Tambak Oso’. “We hope that such event can revive the fairy tale telling habit. So that the upcoming generations will be brilliant but keep their legacy inside,” Yusak Anshori, the General Manager of SPH explained.

Agus Setiono came out triumph in the race. Not only he managed to impress the jury, but also kids audiences. This teacher of Negeri Bahari Kinder Garden in Manukan area, Surabaya stepped on stage with four dolls at hands. He was also proven to be skilled in manipulating his vocal cord to produce different kinds of voices.

Another great performer was Wahyudi, a second grade teacher of Ciputra Surabaya Elementary School. He was carried into his own story, a folktale Timun Mas. Wahyudi’s skill in producing a mother’s voice, a baby’s crying or even a grumbling of a giant stunned the audience. “I join in for my sons. I want to give them good examples,” said Wahyudi.

The top three performer were awarded million rupiahs in cash, trophies, dine voucher and a free stay in SPH. “This competition is very positive. Telling story never gets old as a mean to strengthen the bound between parents and children,” said Hafida Indrawati, the Managing Editor of  Superkids Indonesia, who was appointed to be the chairman of the jury.
