Let’s Play Some Indonesian Traditional Game

Do you ever play stilts, clogs, congklak, shell stilts, jumping rope, marbles or galasin football? Definitely exciting if you have tried it!

The above games are Indonesian traditional games that we don’t see every day in this digital age. The Gerakan Kebangkitan Permainan Tradisional Indonesia (The Rise of Indonesian Traditional Game Movement), prompted by artists, anthropologists, sociologists, psychologists, professors and community alliance, Sunday (8/2) took the first step of the campaign, by presenting various traditional games equipment.

Despite the rain, enthusiasm of people of Jakarta who were having the Car Free Day (CFD) around Bunderan HI stayed up to play together. From Superkids to Superparents alike everyone gathered to enjoy the free entertainment of traditional games.

Organizer team deliberately provided various free traditional game equipments. Sure enough once the equipments are open, people jumped on them. Many of them have never seen each other before the game, but once they play together everyone became friends. All looked for fun. And that’s what playing is all about.

Sudirman street, Hallte Tosari for exact that normally crowd with vehicles, was invested by all sort of people playing together that morning. The kind of games that became favorite were stilts, egrang batok, bakiak, congklak, galasin or gobak sodor and rope jumping.

Not only to free play, the public were amused by an exhibition of various tools used in traditional games such as gasing (spinner) and congklak. To enliven the event there is a top spinning attraction presented by the Indonesia Spinner Community. In addition there’s also Children Community Onions from Solo. “We are delighted to be joining in this movement,” said Busrini Agustina, from Komunitas Anak Bawang (Community of Newbie).

Rise of Indonesian Traditional Games movement initiated Endi Aras, observers of this traditional game will continue to introduce Indonesian traditional games through this movement.
