Meeting With the Old Malang
The buildings, the shops, the toys, all is presented in the annual event of Malang Tempoe Doloe (MTD). The seventh MTD was held for four days, May 24-27 2012. The festival still took place on Jalan Ijen, the centre area of the city. The traffic was redirected to several alternatives routes. It was only normal considering the MTD took a whole day from 07.00 in the morning to 24.00 midnight.
Brings forward the replica of old buildings and structures, the festival drags its audience into the surrounding of old Malang. Many kinds of traditional snack that we can’t find anywhere, appear all at once filling the Ijen. The temptation of Gulali, kompyang, gandul ice, angsle, ronde, corn rice, clownist crackers was too difficult to resist.
To better blend them self into the old surroundings, audience hired some traditional transportations such as carriage with horse or goat to move around. Another solution is the old trusted way, walk along the MTD area. This event to celebrate the anniversary of Malang was also presenting traditional art performance. Human puppet, leather puppet, masked dance, karawitan and old bands parade. More to add the sense, all participants and the committee must dress according to the old code of dressing.
