New Year Around the World

 

On Saturday, December 14th, 2013, the main atrium on the ground floor of Grand City Mall, Surabaya turned into a gathering of cut little kids from ‘all over the world’. There’s Karin Angelina of Mexico, Zaky from India, Gaby Schilders from Dutch, Korean Trudi, Michelle from Egypt, Richard from Japan, Neva from India, and many more. They stepped on stage wearing their traditional outfit from their own countries.

 

Well, more than a few visitors were fooled, Superkids. They actually thought that those kids were from distant places. They were students of Growing Kid School who perform in school regular annual event. Every nearing the end of year, Growing Kid School and Citra Mentari School hold the year end celebration. This year theme happened to be “New Year Around the World”. That’s why the students appeared in traditional costume of other countries.

 

Their effort to dress up as Korean, Egypt, Japan, Dutch, Scottish kids were judged in a fashion show. One by one the kids stepped up the stage to show their costumes. They then introduced their name and the origin of their outfit in fluently English words. The combination of their style matching and confident determined the score given by the jury to select two best performances. The winner got a prize of school equipment package. In the show, students from Citra Mentari School were also performed, entertain people with clarinet.

 

“The goal of this event is to improve the kids’ self confident to perform in public. Also to introduce the world traditional cultures and New Year celebration in many countries,” said the Headmaster of Growing Kid School, Melissa Sylvania. Despite the short 10 days range available from Christmas, Melissa outlined that this event is not specifically designed for Christmas. “We focused on the end year celebration, which is our regular for these past three years,” Melissa confirmed.
