The Judging of 2014 Indonesian Kids Finalists Work

Solar photo light, painted shoes and mobile library were among the ideas that had been presented by 10 groups of marginal kids throughout Jabodetabek in 2014 KADO (Karya Anak Indonesia) session, in the main hall of Bank Mandiri Museum, Kota Tua, Jakarta, last week (16/8). This session was part of KADO sequence, a project that actively pushing the creative learning for marginal kids in Jabodetabek area, brought by @SahabatAnak.

Project KADO initiated last February 2014, followed by 300 marginal kids, escorted by 150 volunteers and ended in July. The objective was to facilitate marginal kids in participating to make changes in their community/environment. And this was the second time SahabatAnak threw KADO with theme “Aku Anak Indonesia”.

10 finalists were selected out of the 21 groups, based on some criteria. From kids’ involvement in planning, preparation and execution of the project, the impact of the project on the kid and environment up to the discipline in executing the project. The 10 finalists have presented their work in front of the jury that consisted on the movement starter Rene Suhardono, social movement care person Alissa Wahid and volunteering agent Zack Peterson.

“Sahabat Anak wants to push up an alternative learning style, with creative base for marginal kids. These kids often encounter difficulties in formal education at school, whether it’s caused by financial issue, family condition or the lack of identity paper they have,” Verawaty Sampe. Coordinator of 2014 KADO-Jambore Sahabat Anak (JSA), explained.

The whole project KADO had undergone evaluation process and the winner will be announced in JSA annual occasion on August 30-31 st. 1000 marginal kids (from many places such as Jabodetabek, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Medan, Palembang, Surabaya, Makassar and Bali, will attend the JSA, and 500 volunteers.

Every kid has potential to become an agent of changes for the environment, therefore they must be given an opportunity to be seen actively. If we don’t do that, then who? Any Superkids interested in participating in this massive event?
