One Dress for Two Occasions

Almost overlapping, Imlek and Valentine provide inspiration for young designer to create.

Dress up for the celebration of Chinese New Year and Valentine Day can be put in one package. Linggra Kartika combines the two needs in one shade of red for kids. She specializes her 10 designs for Superkids under 14 years old. “Just to be practical. Kids can wear these clothes for Imlek and Valentine too,” said Linggra.

For the sake of the active kids who move around a lot convenient, she takes the choosing materials very seriously. Linggra avoid using thick and heavy fabric, especially the itchy ones. She picks organza textile which looks bulky beauty yet soft on the skin. The clothing is combined with beads, little pearl or flower accent. She claims to avoid making too exciting and prominent dresses. She says simple and dynamic dresses fit better with the cheerful character of kids.

Among Linggra’s 10 designs, some dress accented straight and some are stack and simple. The top was decorated with detail lace and 3D flowers. Although the concept is rather similar, there is one difference that easily spotted from Valentine and Imlek fashion. It is the collar which usually in Shanghai stylish for Chinese New Year and a round collar for Valentine. “But the color should be red only. This is actually my experiment to prove that the one color the dress is not necessarily monotonous. Details can be from the combination of the type of material,” said alumnus International Business Management (IBM) University of Ciputra Surabaya.

For hair accessories, ornament hairpin or chopsticks can be used, added with small balls like lanterns. If you want to strengthen the Valentine sense, the hair can be decorated with red headbands made of brocade and modified lace shape. Or, if you want to look more simple in Chinese New Year celebrations, just roll the beautifully with Chinese children style.

The latest fashion collection Linggra child is exhibited in a social activity in Ciputra World Surabaya, last week. The show lasted for seven days and invited visitors to share affection with children orphanage.
