ACM Piano Test? You Can Have It in Surabaya

The Piano Institute (TPI) Surabaya keeps trying to familiarize its students with international scale of music activities. After successfully brought in world class pianists for some masterclass lesson, now TPI joins in with American College of Musician (ACM) to put their skills to the test.

ACM is a nonprofit institution that hold the official piano examination in US. Lenni Winata of Sigma Piano House Jakarta is the first to bring ACM to Indonesia, last 2013. Only in one year, about 80 pianists take the ACM test in Jakarta. The examination supervisor came from the very headquarter of ACM in Texas, US.

“It’s so happened that these past two years, Vice President of ACM Mrs Julia Amada Kruger managed to presence and evaluate,” said Lenni at TPI Amadeus Hall, Dharmahusada Indah Timur Street, Surabaya, Friday afternoon, September 26, 2014.

During her first visit to the City of Heroes, Julia was accompanied by Lenni and ACM Guild Adjudicator Melanie Chairil introduced the ACM piano test system to pianist instructors in Surabaya. What’s so different between ACM’s and other international scale piano tests that are previously known in Indonesia? “No reading. The contestant must be familiar with the song. It is a must for those who want to take selection test to continue learning in US,” Lenni explains.

Another different is ACM does not give the song in the test. Little pianist can choose by them self what composition they master at best and like to be presented before the judges. Julia, who is active travelling the world to give test, sees how children in many countries can show their true potential with this concept. “We need to explore their potential according to what they are best at. Each child has their own style,” Julia, who after Indonesia will continue on her work to Korea, explains.

In different occasion, the TPI Director Catherine Tanujaya BMus is very proud to have his school appointed as the official representative for ACM test in Surabaya. She is confident that it will enrich the people of Surabaya’s view towards music. Not to mention the ACM test material is free, enabling students to learn more songs other than those provided in the test

“According to my experience, learning music should not be strained. It must have proper objective, backed with sufficient passion. It’s a delight to have TPI becomes the designated choice for pianist of Surabaya for ACM test,” Catherine, who is now taking music master class in Brisbane, Australia, laid on.
