Let’s Cherish Diversity!

Sunda, Java, Batak, Ambon, Papua, Bugis, Padang, Dayak, Bali. Those are just some of them. Each has its own culture. They all come with their own characteristic and none can be claimed as better than the others. To appreciate the diversity of tribe and culture was the essence of Tunas Kren (Temu Anak Kreatif Nusantara or The Gathering of National Creative Kids). This kids camp was held by Pandita Sabha Budha Dharma Indonesia Foundation (YPSBDI) for the school holiday. The event took five days, July 4-8 at Myogan Temple Complex, Megamendung, Bogor.

The participants consisted of 300, 3-10 years old kids from 15 provinces. Parents may accompany children of 3-5 years old. Local Assistant took care of the older ones. “We change theme every year. We had Batak, Java and Batavia. We introduced the kids better with Balinese this year,” said Handoko, the chairman of the committee.

Participants were divided into three groups, namely Kampung Sanur, Kampung Ubud and Kampung Kuta. They were then invited to taste some Bali original cuisine, such as rujak bir and rai banana. They were also introduced and trained to perform the famous Kecak Dance and Suling Bali. By the end of the event, hundreds participants performed Kecak Dance before the bhiksu, Yang Arya Shokun Takahashi and Yang Arya Shojo Sakabe.

“I was so excited with this event. I made so many friends from other places,” said Thalita, an 11 years old girl from Lubuk Linggau, South Sumatera.
