Let’s Join the First Indonesian Origami Convention!

This event is open for anyone. Old and young, students and workers, origami practitioner and newbie.

At least 60 origami fans from every region are ready to participate in the First Indonesian Origami Convention, March 7-8, 2015. The event with theme of “Origami-Science-Education” will be the grand premiere of origami community gathering from all over Indonesia. Before, this kind of gathering is limited for people of the same region or its surrounding areas.

According to the deputy chairman of the organizer committee Linda Marlina, in social media Facebook, there are 5,000 people listed as members of origami Indonesian community. Some of them live abroad. But of course, hang around in the real world not as easy as doing it online in cyberspace. “We have 60 people enlist from Bandung, Bogor, Jakarta, Medan, Bali, Surabaya, Samarinda and other areas. I am sure the number will not stop there,” said Linda exclusively for Superkids Indonesia.

During two days of the first weekend in March, the event focused on the Faculty of Industrial Technology, Department of Informatics, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya. The City of Heroes is chosen as the execution site because it is accessible from everywhere. Participants from both eastern and western Indonesia can reach Surabaya easily. “Actually, we can have it in Jakarta, but it is too crowded. Not to mention the point that Jakarta is home for old time origami activists. While in Surabaya they are fresher and vibrant people,” Linda reasons.

Convention will be filled with workshops, work exhibitions and a mini bazaar. The workshop covers various themes around origami, which is certainly attractive for the enthusiasts of this art of paper folding. The topic is about origami and business, engineering origami design, metal folding, relationship between origami and education, origami and math, origami as a decorative element and installation art, to origami healing therapy. For a discussion related to science, education and product design, the organizers invites representatives from the Department of Informatics and Department of Product Design ITS as a speaker. While discussion about design techniques, the history of origami and its applications will be hosted by the internal speaker of origami community.

Participants can also enjoy a variety of origami works exhibited during the convention. Not only that, there is a bazaar that sells origami related items. Among those times are kits, books and works of origami. “By joining in the convention, people will know more the progress that has been made at origami and how its implementation in the field of technology and science. Not to mention potential business ideas developed by origami,” said Linda, who is the founder of Origami Club Indonesia.

The registration fee before the convention Rp 200,000 for students and Rp 250,000 for public. On site registration rise to Rp 250,000 for students and Rp 300,000 for public. Participants will receive a seminar kit, folding paper and 2015 Origami Convention Indonesia book. Transport and accommodation for the event to be borne by each participant.
