Mudik Prepping with Superkids (2)

If Go by Train

1. Reservation has to be made way ahead. Everyone must have their own seat, so they can sit and sleep comfortable.

2. Since train station is swarmed with people during mudik season, it’s important to make it at least one hour earlier. Getting into the station, heading to railroad platform, looking for the train and others will take longer.

3. Much like any other public transportation, you need to provide superkids with biscuit, drink or milk and toys to keep them from getting bored.

4. Don’t forget to have spare clothes. It’s also a good idea to have warm clothes or scarf to use as blanket. AC in train can be quite cold.

5. You do realize there are pickpockets in the train, Moms. You may want to put all the little valuable items and documents into one small easy handed handbag. Why? If we are traveling with Superkids and no other adults, and we must take them into lavatory, at least we can carry the handbag along.

6. Usually, superkids will be excited in the train. They simply can’t stay in their seat and want to explore the train. Let them, Supermom, just keep an eye on them to make sure they stay safe and not disturb other passengers. The point is, the trip must be enjoyable and fun for Superkids!

If Go by Ship/Boat

1. Keep an eye for scalpers. It’s wise to purchase the ticket way in advance. It will prevent from illegal ticketing.

2. Beware of pickpockets, especially in the crowd when people are pushing against each others. A little patient is a virtue, especially if it keeps you safe getting into the ship. It’s also wise to remove all shinny jewelry that attracts predators. Keep them somewhere safe, away from other’s eyes and reach.

3. If you are crossing with ferryboat, cars are usually left on the lower deck. Better double check the lock to be on the safe side.

4. Like it or not the wave often makes Superkids sick and dizzy. Make sure they eat something before leaving house. If you are traveling in Ramadhan, Supermom, you may want to set out early morning when all those meals are still there. And perhaps you and superkids should take some Dramamine after sahur (before imsak).

5. If you are not tight on budget, Supermom, you may want to travel with bigger boat for mudik with Superfamily. Generally, bigger boats are better to withstand the sea wave.

6. Sleep is also helpful for Superkids to distract them from feeling sick. The thing is, you should sleep in comfortable position. Sleeping pose can be very discomfort or even hurt your body, especially around the neck. Do it and you will wake up with painful body all over.

Happy mudik, Superfamily…be safe!
