Let’s Yoga, Kids! (2)

We surely don’t want to pick the wrong yoga class for kids, Supermom. In the perfect world, this exercise should introduce them to a series of practice that not only do their physic, mental as well. Yoga teaches strength, flexibility, self control and building confident.

There are several things to attend to in kids’ yoga class. Pay attention, Supermom:

  • Instructors should demonstrate a move before ask kids to do so.
  • Kids are taught to constantly use nose for respiration during session.
  • Every move in yoga should be followed by several deep inhales.
  • Kids are allowed to lie on their back and relax after a hard session.
  • Yoga should be fun for kids.
  • Less talk. Chit-chat during exercise should be  minimized to allow kids  more focus.
  • No over compliment. Focus on the movement, instead of trying to impress people.
  • Not push too hard.

Last but not least, kids need to be familiar with some unwritten class rules. Help them with this for the sake of their convenient in the class.

• Proper outfit. Direct the kids to put on the not too tight suits that will render them from moving freely. Yet too loose will making them hard to perform certain poses. Yoga should be barefooted. Socks are actually not recommended, but if that comforts them, it’s fine.

• Be on time. Kids should arrive at the class a bit ahead of the schedule and stay there until the class dismissed. Coming earlier also benefit them for having time to do some stretching simply with sit still. If they do need to step out before the class is over, do it as calm as possible, without unnecessary noises.

• Bring in their own mat. Not every yoga class has its mat renting service.  Kids should have their own for their own convenient.

• Be honest to the instructor. Kids should tell the instructor if they recently got injured, wounded or the like before the session. It will help the instructor to understand when they can’t perform certain poses. A good instructor will recommend some proper poses, and at the same time remind them of moves they should avoid.

• Don’t eat before practice. Snacks are fine, but at least one hour before the class.

• Don’t hesitate to ask.  Push the superkids to ask the instructor of any question they don’t understand during the session. Instructor will be happy to answer them.
