The Hare with Many Friends

There was a hare so popular among other animals. Everyone wanted to be its friend and everyone claimed to be one. Until one day, this charming hare needed help.

The hare heard news, a pack of hound was heading to its place. Fear from being preyed upon, the hare looked for immediate escape. It went to those called themselves as friends. First, the hare came to the horse who could run fastest among all. The hare asked for the horse to carry it on its back and run away. The answer? The horse refused, saying it had an important job to take care of with its owner. “Ah, i’m sure others will help out,” the horse said to itself.

Then the hare came to the bull and told its fear. The hare hoped that the bull would protect it from the hounds with its sharp horns. However, the bull also refused. “I’m sorry, dear hare. I’m having an appointment. But i’m sure our friend the goat can do what you said,” the ox convinced.

Too bad, the bull was wrong. The goat was too afraid that the hare will got injured if carried on its back. The goat was sure the ram was the best one to help out. So the hare rushed to the ram with its problem. “Next time, my friend. I understand that these hounds do enjoy eating sheeps and hares. But i’m unable to help you now,” the ram turned it down.

The hare’s last hope was the calf. Unfortunately for its part, the calf was also unable to help. The calf didn’t want to take responsible for its faith because even older animals had refused the task. The pack of hound was around the corner now. The hare came to realize that there was no one it could rely to save it. The hare dashed away as fast as possible alone.

She that had many friends, had no friend.
